AWE and Franklin Templeton Presents: Fireside Chat with Asian Women Leaders
October 20, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm PDT
AWE Network and Franklin Templeton presents the ‘Fireside Chat with Asian Women Leaders’ on Thursday, Oct 20, 2022, 5.30 pm – 7.30 pm PT. This is a FREE in-person event held at the Franklin Templeton Campus in San Mateo, CA. 👉 Register for tickets at: https://AWEFTAsianWomenLeaders.eventbrite.com.
Asian women professionals are the least likely minority group to be promoted into management and executive levels based on a study by the Ascend Foundation. According to a recent McKinsey report, the representation of Asian women steadily declines from the entry levels to senior levels, and Asian women make up less than 1 percent of promotions into the C-suite. The intersectionality of gender and race – being women and a person of color – causes Asian women professionals to encounter a double whammy in advancing their careers into leadership. Asian women professionals also feel that they are caught in competing sets of stereotypes and face undue pressure to get it “just right.”
The cultural and gender influences of Asian women professionals create unconscious barriers and career challenges that can impact their confidence, such as feelings of imposter syndrome, being seen as doers and not leaders, finding it hard to speak up and get their voice heard, and having burnout due to difficulty in saying no. Yet, the “model minority” stereotype makes it easy to assume Asian women are doing well at work, and they could become “the forgotten minority in the glass ceiling conversation”.
This will be a panel discussion with Asian women leaders who can fully relate to the struggles and unique challenges that Asian women professionals face in their careers. The panel will share advice on how Asian women can build confidence, overcome imposter syndrome, advocate for their needs and navigate burnout. The panel will also share strategies on how Asian women can confidently step into leadership roles with their most authentic selves and be fully aligned with their core values, identity and culture.
The Asian women leaders on the panel are:
Denise Ang, Founder, Asian Women Empowerment (AWE) Network
Eileen Chang, Leadership Coach and External Faculty for McKinsey’s Asian Executive Leadership Program
Han-Chyi Pang, Chief of Staff, Pixel Software Leadership, Google
Hanna Wu, CEO, Amplify Life Insurance
Freda Lam Zietlow, CFA, NACD.DC, Managing Director, Fiduciary Trust International
